第14回 Put a Sock in it! | うるさい! 「Idiomania | イディオマニア 」

第14回目のテーマは「Put a sock in it!」 今日の慣用句はPut a sock in it!です。This is a very casual idiom and a little rude, and you should only use it with friends. We use this idiom when we are angry because someone is being too loud.  直訳すると「それの中に靴下を詰め込んで!」ですが、慣用句では「黙れ!」「うるさい!」「静かにしなさい!」と意味になります。 Historically, it comes from the gramophone 「蓄音機」. When it was too loud, people would put a sock in the gramophone to make is quieter. In our skit, the Ginza Boys are back! Knight teases john and his girlfriend Monika.
